PILSEN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA has been founded in 1946 already, at that time in the framework of the Czechoslovak Radio Station – Studio in Pilsen. During more than 60 years of its existence it has built up a highly respected reputation resting on a rich tradition not only among the reputable Czech orchestras, but represents one of the highly respected musical ensemble sought after also in abroad.




During the years many art personalities in the position of conductor-in-chief have formed successfully its professional profile, e. g. G. Vágner, J. Hrnčíř, A. Devátý, M. Turnovský, B. Liška, J. Chalupecký and H. Farkač. More on it, the Orchestra has had many opportunities to cooperate with world-known soloists, such as R. Kerer, L. Kogan, G. Kremer, I. Oistrakh, M. Rostropovich, or with conductors, e.g. V. Talich, A. Khachaturjan, J. Bělohlávek, L. Pešek, J. Stárek, A. Katz, O. Dohnányi, Ch. Mackerras, V. Sutej or S. Baudo. Nowadays, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Pilsen performs under its Conductor-in-Chief Mr. Koji Kawamoto, Laureate of the Prague Spring Music Festival 2007.


As for the top events of the Orchestra's art activities, let's mention its Master Courses for conductors focused to the work of J. Sibelius under the direction of the highly respected Finish conductor Jorma Panula, or close cooperation with the opera stars, such as Ramón Vargas, or the Spanish Diva Monserrat Caballé. Since 2007, the Orchestra has accompanied the Finale Concerts of the 'Monserrat Caballé International Singer Contest' in Zaragoza, Spain.


Apart of its concert activities directly in Pilsen, the Radio Symphonic Orchestra Pilsen orients its art activity also to the recording for the National Czech Radio Station and for foreign partners as well. Dozens of musical works covering the period since the Baroque up to the present times have been recorded for European producers. The advantage consists in the fact, that the Orchestra has at its direct disposal complete technical equipment of the Digital Recording Studio. The Radio Symphonic Orchestra Pilsen is a body with a prestigious international renown, which offers to its partners not only a verified art quality and high flexibility, but which is ready to any cooperation on a high artistic level.
